I went to a new type of networking function the other day called SNAP -“Super Networking Accelerated Program”. I call it speed networking. You basically give one minute pitches of yourself, your product, service or business to a very concentrated audience. It works amazingly well. Here’s how it goes: Every table has the same number of people and every person gets a number. The person who is number 1 stands up and has one minute to pitch to the other people at the table. You state your name and your business or reason for being there (advertising your business, looking for a job etc…). After your pitch you ask anyone at the table if they can help or would like more information. If they are interested or can help, you give them your card and you can hook up later. You only give out your card to people who show interest and you only ask for their card if you are going to follow up. Then you move to the next table until every table in the room has heard the pitch. Then person number 2 goes etc… I was amazed at how quickly it went and how interesting it was to hear people present themselves and their business. It was by far the most effective way of networking I have ever been to and I only passed out cards to people who wanted to know more about my business. It was organized thru LinkedIn and was publicized organically thru word of mouth. I will assuredly be organizing one of these types of events in the very near future. Stay tuned…
